Laxmi P. Sarathy earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Physics, concentrating on Solid State Physics & Applied Electronics, in 1997 from the University of Mumbai. Laxmi, then immigrated to the United States, and worked as a computer programmer at a law firm as she continued her studies and earned another Bachelor of Science degree in Physics from DePaul University in 2003. Laxmi earned her Juris Doctor degree from UIC John Marshall Law School in 2008, with a concentration in International Business and Trade Law. Laxmi continued her studies in law at UIC John Marshall Law School and earned a Master of Laws in International Trade and Business Law in 2015.
Laxmi concentrates her practice in Insolvency Law, including Bankruptcies, Tax Resolutions, and Civil Litigation. Laxmi has helped both individual consumers as well as small/medium sized businesses with their financial problems. In these areas, Laxmi has worked both on the debtor's side and the creditors side.
Laxmi cares deeply about community service. She volunteers as the Clinic Coordinator of the Cyriac D. Kappil Probono Legal Clinic at the Indo American Center and formerly counseled the Hindu Temple of Greater Chicago.
She is a member of the Chicago Bar Association, the Illinois Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the South Asian Bar Association, the American Bankruptcy Institute, and the International Women's Insolvency & Restructuring Confederation. She is admitted to practice in the State of Illinois, the Northern District of Illinois (General and Trial bar), the Northern District of Indiana, and the United States Supreme Court.
